    Welcome to

    the world of copper

    Raw materials become products
NA's copper production from copper concentrates represents 60 % supplied by copper mines (primary raw materials). Mining concentrates are composed of one third of each, copper, iron and sulphur. 40 % of the copper production is based on recycling materials such as copper refining and copper alloy scrap, copper containing residues from foundry and semifabricators, various kinds of shredder materials as well galvanic slimes, slags, ashes and filter dusts.

At our site in Lünen we use exclusively secondary raw materials. In addition to our high-purity copper-cathodes we also recover various by-products, such as iron silicate stone and high-purity sulphuric acid as well as products based on tin, lead, zinc, nickel and selenium. We are explicitely focussing on the production of silver and gold products.

The major part of our copper cathode production in Hamburg and Lnen are further processed into a variety of copper products. We use primarily our inhouse cathodes, so our products are guaranteed to be of a consistent and high quality.

NA produces continuous cast wire rod from the cathodes in the plants in Hamburg and Emmerich. In addition, special wire rod - so-called TOP-ROD made of oxygen free and low alloyed copper - is produced in another plant: Continuous cast wire rod is mainly processed into cable and wires. TOP-ROD is primarily used for the production of special conductive profiles and in the plating industry.

NA processes a further major part of its own cathodes in three continuous casting plants in Hamburg into billets and cakes made of copper. These cakes are used as raw material for the production of strips, foils and billets and as raw material for the production of tubes and profiles. In our OF copper plant, we cast special shapes from oxygen-free and low-alloyed copper.

Our 50% subsidiary Schwermetall produces pre-rolled strip from the cakes procured from NA and casts cakes of highly alloyed copper, such as brass.

The pre-rolled strip produced at Schwermetall is processed by Prymetall amongst other materials into high-grade strips made of copper and copper alloys in several processing steps.
In addition, from the billets produced in its own foundry, Prymetall transforms shaped wires in brass materials by pressing and drawing.

In this way we ensure the continuation of the consistently forward integrated value added process within the Group.
